Only recently – at the Olympic Games 2006 in Torino – Swiss snowboard star Tanja Frieden achieved the greatest triumph of her young career: victory in the Boardercross competition. Her remarkable personality has since secured her legendary status among her admirers.

Since her victory, with her bright nature and likeable personality, Tanja has captured the heart of many a sports fan – and many a fan from outside of the sports scene.

At times, Boardercross can be a rough affair – all the more surprising to the audience, when exceedingly feminine Tanja shows up on the slope.

With his tremendous saves, Jörg Stiel managed to decide many a game, and his eccentric manner often caused great elation in the stands. He remained main goalkeeper of Borussia Mönchengladbach and the Swiss National Team up to the end of his career in 2004. Stiel’s picture went around the world when he stopped the ball with his head, lying flat on his belly, in the game Switzerland – Croatia in the European Championship 2004.

It is February 10th, 1976, when Heini Hemmi achieves the biggest triumph of his career and causes quite a stir: The giant slalom gold medal

– at the Olympic Games! It was then, if not earlier, that Heini Hemmi became one of the most popular Swiss athletes – and has remained so until today. „If not me, then surely Heini!“, this statement from the favoured Ingmar Stenmark after the race proves that Hemmi was equally popular with his  colleagues. Stenmark came in third in that race, behind Ernst Good, who saved the double victory for the Swiss. It was a fascinating day, to be long remembered by everyone involved and by sports fans from all over the world.

Together with Heini Hemmi, he belongs to the big ones of the golden days of Swiss skiing.

Playing for FC Basel, Karli Odermatt was a five-time Swiss champion in series in the 60s and 70s – and alongside Köbi Kuhn a big star of the Swiss football stadiums.

As brand ambassador of the Swiss watch brand CIMIER one might say that he has now joined another classic with origins in Basel; CIMIER watches were produced in Bubendorf in the canton Baselland from 1925 onward, before the company moved to the canton Zug.

Odermatt joined FCB at age 19 and was faithful to the team for 13 consecutive seasons. He can still be found frequently at the “Joggeli” (the St. Jakobspark stadium in Basel) – these days mainly active beside the pitch as VIP Liaison.
